Description
Four monks live a quiet life in a secluded, decaying monastery withBazylia, a nun who looks after them, and Franek, a vagrant they hadtaken in. Unexpectedly, someone renovates a dilapidated old buildingon the adjacent hill and turns it into a Buddhist center to hostrelaxation and meditation sessions. The center’s owner, until recentlya businessman, re-evaluates his life and moves in with his twoadolescent daughters. They are joined by session participants, masterTashi G and his follower, Teresa. The monks are shocked. Do infidelrituals take place right next door? That’s unacceptable! This is how, unexpectedly for both sides, the two worlds begin to permeate eachother, even if at first it seems more like guerilla warfare.
“Siła wyższa” is directed by Wojciech Adamczyk, who says of the project: “Everything is new, really. For the first time in years there are people in my crew I had never worked with – I met most of the actors during rehearsals for “Siła wyższa”. I’m really looking foreword to seeing Piotr Fronczewski (who plays Jan), whom I last saw on a film set 9 years ago”.
This is how Robert Brutter and Jerzy Niemczuk, the writers of “Siławyższa”, describe their series: “You can say it’s an attempt at acomedy about the spirituality of modern Poles with a strong emphasison comedy, because we’re all sometimes very funny as we run around incircles in a post-communist, not-yet-capitalist reality trying to find the meaning of life in work, power and money. Besides, as it turns out, Buddhism and Christianity, especially the Franciscan tradition, have much more in common than it may seem, and both the Buddhists and monks quickly realize that in business and politics the most basic ethical concepts and behaviors have long been forgotten”.
The cast of “Siła wyższa” includes Piotr Fronczewski (guardian Jan), Piotr Grabowski (Tomasz Malicki, former businessman and owner of theBuddhist center) Katarzyna Żak (Bazylia, Felician nun, housekeeper), Anna Dereszowska (Dorota, Bazylia’s sister), Leon Charewicz (monk Jerzy), Sławomir Pacek (monk Wojciech), Robert Majewski (monk Robert), Krzysztof Dracz (Tashi Ga), Monika Krzywkowska (Teresa, student and follower of Tashi Ga, teacher), Kamilla Baar (Kinga).
